Our Sustainability Thesis

This page outlines our work centered on behavior change in climate and sustainability. This focus remains an important part of who we are. We invite you to explore our Portfolio page to see the full scope of how we think and invest.

Our Sustainability Themes

  • How do we help consumers, corporations, and governments make better data-driven decisions regarding climate and sustainability? Examples in this category include climate intelligence companies such as Clarity and carbon footprint companies such as Commons.

  • How can we turbocharge the shift in consumption behavior towards re-use and recycling? In this category, we look for companies that extend product and resource lifespans, like reuse systems management platform Topanga.

  • How do we help make supply chains for consumer consumption far less wasteful? In this category, we focus on companies like TreeDots, which helps reduce food waste, and Super, which simplifies supply chains for consumer goods.

  • How do we rethink the environmental impact of the built environment? This category includes companies that contribute to both sustainability and convenience, including technologies enabling remote work and education like Dialpad and Skillshare, which reduce the need for transportation and physical buildings.

  • How do we improve energy reliability and efficiency, and facilitate the uptake of clean energy? In this category, we look for companies that strengthen and stabilize the electrical grid and improve the management and performance of energy assets.

Our Impact

While we are a single-bottom-line investor, we consider impact throughout the entire investment process. We assess companies with our impact screen and track the climate impact of our portfolio companies.

  • Positive Impact: How well aligned are the Company’s products/services with Amasia’s thesis, “behavior change as a means to fight the climate crisis and drive global sustainability?

Intentionality: How core is climate action to the Company’s business model?

Scale: Does the Company have the potential for global scale?

Depth: How significant is the Company’s impact to customers or end-users (e.g., how transformative is it to their carbon footprint)?

Additionality: How additional is the Company’s impact (e.g., compared to competitor product/services and/or existing market trends)?
